In nearly all cases, we talk about money only in terms of how much of it we have, how much we can get, what we can do to get rich. But perhaps this is wrong. Perhaps instead of focusing solely on the amount of cash, we should be talking about the best ways to make money. For example, let’s think about the concept of trying to get rich.

Is it enough just to do whatever it takes, even if that means trampling over other people or the planet? Or should you find morally sound ways to make money? From the human perspective, the latter is better. And it’s not as if there aren’t options for this type of money making! Below, we take a look at four such options.

A Job That Gives Back

There’s a sad statistic out there about how people perceive the job. The vast majority think that their job has no positive impact on the world, and a not insignificant percentage of people actually think that what they do actually makes the world a worse place. Imagine! There are, however, plenty of positions that provide a decent income and also do good in the world, such as renewable energy positions, and anything healthcare related.

Responsible Investing

Of course, it’s not only in our jobs where we can make money, or make a difference to the world. Most people know that if you’ve got some cash to play with, then it’s worthwhile putting it to work by investing it. However, the truth of the matter is that most investment opportunities aren’t all that morally sound — the wealth grows by exploiting others or the planet, for example.

But there is another way. In recent years, plenty of alternative investment options have been developed. This puts cash into developing but morally sound industries, such as healthcare, energy, and tech, which, in one way or another, pushes humanity forward.

Creating a Company

Some people think that the only way they’re going to make large amounts of money is to work in a company that they may not totally agree with on moral grounds. This is not true. It’s never been easier to create your own business — and when it’s yours, you’re the one who sets the standards. You can do things that push the world forward, and be the change that you want to see in the world. And the public will back you — more and more people are choosing the companies they give their money to based on how socially responsible they are.

Do What You Love

One reason why certain industries are morally questionable is that the people who work within those industries are only there for the money. They don’t care about the job, only the paycheck. In this environment, it’s easy to see how people might make morally dubious decisions. As such, one of the best ways to make money without compromising your morals is to do what you love — it’s much easier to live true to yourself when you’re doing something that you do for more than the financial aspect. The money will follow!
