A website needs to do more than look good. It also has to be interesting to the audience you are trying to attract, but before you can do that you have to determine who your target audience is.
Identifying Your Target Audience
You may already know who your target audience is, but if not you need to check out some market research. There is a lot of research available online and if you are researching something mainstream, such as women’s clothing or children toys, there is a lot of data available for them.
You will even find the information you need for more niche industries. If you are looking for information on who buys clothing with pictures of their loved ones one, who uses the services of a theatre website company or who likes to knit their own clothes, you will still find many research sites that will help you find what you need.
Knowing your target audience is vital as even down to the type style on font size used on your website can be affected by the people you are trying to attract.
Choose A Colour Scheme
Different colours can trigger different emotions in the viewer’s minds as every good marketer knows. Blue, for instance, suggests that a site is trustworthy and reliable. Yellow and orange signify cheaper products that can be fun. For high quality, gold, black, grey and white have the optimum effect, and if you are out to frighten your viewers, red is the colour to use.
Of course, there are lots of other colours and not everyone is affected in the same way. But the research that arrived at these conclusions pointed out that this is the way most people react to these colours.
The Layout
Once you have found your target audience and colour scheme, the next thing to look at is the layout of your site. Regardless of anything above, your website should be very user-friendly, but that can be different for each group.
If you are targeting a young audience, for example, they are much more tech-savvy than the older generation and will be able to follow things that their grandparents may need to be shown more clearly. You need to consider this when deciding on the layout of your website.
Content Must Be Interesting
The content of your site needs to be of interest to the consumers you are targeting. It should be varied as if it is just pages of text they will soon get bored and move elsewhere. Include some images and videos to make your website more appealing, and if they answer questions about your products or services, that is even better.
At the end of the day, you could have a state of the art website that does not appeal to the people you are trying to attract. Making sure your site is appealing to your target audience will mean that they are more likely to be converted into customers. This is really important, as with no customers you have no business.
