Harissa is a spicy chilli pepper paste that originates from Tunisia. It is used in many North African dishes, but it also has its place in other cuisines around the world. This recipe will teach you how to make spaghetti with king prawns and harissa, which is a delicious dish with spicy, tangy and rich flavours.

This dish is easy to make and it’s very tasty! The recipe below serves 2 people and takes approximately 15 mins to make, it’s healthy and low in calories too. See the dish my daughter helped me make below as part of one of her home ed activities.

Spaghetti with Prawns and Harissa

Ingredients

Spaghetti (180g)

Prawns (150g) Either cooked or raw prawns are fine.

Harissa paste (1 heaped tbsp)

Olive oil (2 tbsp)

Garlic (1 clove)

2 tomatoes – chopped

Broccoli (100g)

Zest of 1 lemon

Salt and pepper to taste.

Instructions

Start by boiling water in a pot and adding salt to season it. Once the water starts boiling, add the spaghetti and cook it for about 10 minutes or until al dente (not overcooked). Drain the pasta, reserve some of the pasta water and set both aside.

While the spaghetti is cooking you can prepare the other ingredients.

Chop the broccoli and cook it in another pot of boiling water for 3-4 minutes until cooked, then set it aside.

Grate the lemon zest, chop the tomatoes and either crush or chop up the garlic clove.

Heat the olive oil in a frying pan and add the garlic, fry for a couple of minutes and then add the tomatoes with it.

Stir the prawns into the mixture and cook for 2-4 mins. If using raw prawns they will turn pink when cooked.

Add the harissa paste and lemon zest and stir through.

Finally, add the spaghetti and stir through while gradually adding the leftover pasta water until thoroughly heated through.

Serve immediately. Enjoy!
