Dry shampoo is a really useful product to have on standby for those days when you can’t wash your hair and it’s looking a bit dull and greasy. It’s applied to dry hair and works by soaking up the excess oil in your hair giving it a fresher, cleaner appearance.

Pop it in your suitcase when going on holiday or on a weekend trip. Use it for hospital stays, place it in your maternity bag, or apply it to your hair when you’re feeling under the weather and just can’t find the energy to wash it.

What is the best way to apply dry shampoo?

The best way to apply dry shampoo is by lifting the hair and applying it to the root area. Massage the product into your hair, leave it for a few minutes, then give it a good brush through.

How to apply dry shampoo

Make sure that you brush your hair thoroughly, as you don’t want residual product showing up as white areas on your hair.

Using a coloured dry shampoo the same shade as your hair colour won’t leave the white residue.

Should I use dry shampoo at night or in the morning?

I use it in the morning but saying that, if your hair is super greasy and you’re unable to wash it, then using dry shampoo morning and night is perfectly fine.

Can you straighten hair after using dry shampoo?

Yes, you can, however, your styling tool manufacturer may say that it is best used on clean hair. I straighten my hair daily and when I use dry shampoo I straighten it first, then apply it.

What colours does dry shampoo come in?

The popular Batiste Dry Shampoo comes in the following shades; Brilliant Blonde, Beautiful Brunette and Divine Dark Brilliant Blonde works for anyone with shades of blonde hair, whether dyed or natural. The Beautiful Brunette shade works well on golden brown hair, copper and red hair. Divine Dark is perfect for even raven black hair and shades of mahogany and chestnut.

Is there a purple dry shampoo?

Yes, there is! I’ve found the following Touch of Silver Purple Toning Dry Shampoo. This dry shampoo will refresh and brighten your hair colour by removing yellow and orange, brassy tones. It’s suitable for blonde, platinum, grey, white and balayage hair.

Don’t over-use dry shampoo

Dry shampoo is a great product to have when you don’t have time to wash your hair, however, with it being an oil-absorbing powder, it can build up in the hair and cause irritation, dry out the hair and cause breakage. Moderation is the key. I recommend for healthy hair, that you don’t use it more than 2-3 days in a row before washing it.
