When I first started SueFoster.info in 2017, it wasn’t a niche website.

It was a lifestyle blog where I wrote about a variety of topics that interested me. From blogging and technology to work and everyday life, I enjoyed having the freedom to write about whatever I was learning or experiencing at the time.

Then, like many bloggers, I kept hearing the same advice:

“Find a niche.”

The idea was that by focusing on one main topic, it would be easier to build authority, attract the right audience and help search engines understand what the website was about.

It sounded like sensible advice, so over time I gradually narrowed the focus of my blog.

Eventually, SueFoster.info became centred around blogging, working from home, online income, WordPress and running a small online business.

I don’t regret making that change.

It encouraged me to learn more, write in greater depth and build a library of articles that continue to help readers today.

When Blogging Started to Feel Restrictive

Over the past year or so, I’ve realised something.

Instead of thinking, “That would make an interesting blog post,” I found myself asking, “Does this fit my niche?”

If it didn’t, I’d often dismiss the idea altogether.

Gradually, I realised I wasn’t enjoying writing as much as I used to.

The freedom that made me start blogging in the first place had slowly disappeared.

Blogging Has Changed

The advice to niche a website still makes sense for many blogs, and there are countless successful niche websites covering every subject imaginable.

But the internet has changed too.

There is more content than ever before, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to stand out by writing the same articles as everyone else.

What people often value most are genuine experiences and honest opinions.

Looking back at my own blog, the articles I’ve enjoyed writing the most have always been based on things I’ve actually done.

Whether that’s building websites, experimenting with online business ideas, publishing books through Amazon KDP, testing AI tools or selling vintage collectibles, I find it much easier to write when I’m sharing real experiences rather than simply repeating advice.

A New Direction

Rather than trying to squeeze every article into one topic, I’ve decided to return to the kind of blog I originally wanted SueFoster.info to be.

A lifestyle blog.

That doesn’t mean I’ll stop writing about blogging or online business. They’re still a big part of my life and they’ll continue to appear regularly.

The difference is that I won’t feel limited to those subjects.

You’ll also find articles about technology, AI, digital publishing, vintage collecting, money-saving, everyday life and other topics that I genuinely find interesting or useful.

The common thread won’t be a niche.

It will simply be sharing honest experiences, practical advice and the things I learn along the way.

Another Project

Alongside this blog, I also run Postcard Attic, a website dedicated to vintage postcards, postal history and antique ephemera.

Working on that project has reminded me how much I enjoy creating original content based on my own interests and research. At the same time, it helped me realise that I wanted SueFoster.info to become a place where I could write more freely again.

The two websites now have very different purposes, and I think that’s a good thing.

Looking Ahead

I’ve learned that websites can evolve just as much as the people who create them.

What worked for me a few years ago isn’t necessarily what inspires me today.

By returning to a lifestyle blog, I’m giving myself the freedom to write about the things that genuinely interest me, while continuing to share the practical advice and honest experiences that have always been at the heart of this website.

I’m excited to see where this next chapter leads.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you’ll enjoy coming along for the journey.
