Everyone knows that when you work from home, and you have a big project on the go, you may not leave the house for days at a time. It can be serious. You are going all out to meet your deadlines, to get that quick turn around, to invoice before your rent is due. You want to make sure you are doing your utmost.

So sometimes it turns out the only place you can really go, for that big deep, lung filling breath of air is in your garden.
In fact, gardens can be excellent sources of inspiration too. Think about it, when it is colourful and smells amazing you can really soak up a lot of inspiration from it.

Seating

This is really going to make a difference if you want to work in the garden. You are going to want to invest in seating that will cater to you. You might be pretty relaxed when you work and prefer something low and deep. Or you might really want to have a more traditional wooden set. Closer to a dining table and chairs than garden furniture. Always aim to get a table without groves and gaps, so when you are creating amazing notes, your pen doesn’t end up ripping through the paper. You can get a great selection of things from Alice’s Garden

Put a box by the backdoor with some blankets and pillows for the days that you want to stay outside for as long as you are comfortable. You’ll be able to pack them away easily too.

Colour

Your main source of colour is going to come from the flowers that you have around you. If you have a mostly paved garden, then you are probably going to want to have large pots on wheels. So that you can roll them around as you please.

Try to plant a range of flowers and herbs. So that your garden will not only be beautiful, but it will be functional too. Herbs and flowers like lavender, jasmine and lilac smell amazing for most of the day and late into the evening. Meaning even if you are a bit of a night owl, you’ll get the full effects.

Green is the colour that will make you feel the most relaxed and productive, so make sure you have plenty in your home and garden to keep those levels super high.

Lighting

As mentioned above, if you are a night owl, then working in the garden on balmy evenings might be precisely what you need. But, if you don’t have excellent night lighting, then you aren’t going to be able to see very much at all.

Outdoor Office

If you get a feel for the outdoors, then you might want to think about building an outdoor office. Something with a lot of windows so the light floods in, and you can take stock of your garden, and get some work done – without feeling like you are cooped up in the house.
