Looking after your office may be more important than you imagine. Your office says a lot about who you are as a person and as a company. A nice-looking office, shows you care about the appearance of your business, it motivates employees as they enjoy being in the office and it could bring in more business opportunities. Simple things like ensuring you have regular lift servicing, updating the plants around the office and keeping the office clean can make a big difference.

If you don’t look after your office, you may find your staff turnover increases, you may see productivity reduce and staff members coming in unhappy as they don’t like coming into the office. Below we look into the importance of looking after your office.

Tidy office

Keeps your employees motivated

A rule of thumb for running any business is to ensure your employees are as motivated as possible. The happier they are and more motivated they are, the more likely your revenue will increase which will have a knock-on effect of improving your profits.

By looking after your office, employees will enjoy coming into the office and feel like it’s a nice environment to work in. If they don’t enjoy the office, they may ask to leave or to remote work as they don’t want to come in. Why not send a survey around the office to see what your employees think about it? Make the survey anonymous, this way they are honest about what they think instead of being polite. You can then use this feedback to make changes.

Gives a good impression to potential clients

Chances are the reason your business is thriving is that you have a good client base who enjoy working with you. You want to keep this impression and work hard to develop it, in order to continue to grow.

Often part of working with your clients is having them in the office so that you can meet and discuss future work with them. If they come into your office and don’t enjoy the experience, they may want to leave you for another company. Your office says a lot about who you are, just like the shoes you wear when you first meet someone.

Tidy space, tidy mind

How a space feels and looks can have a big impact on how you think when in that surroundings. A tidy space can help you think more clearly, it’s less stressful and can improve how productive you are.

A messy space is the opposite, it can bring on the feeling of stress and make you unproductive. You must regularly spend some time going over your office, ensuring it’s as tidy as possible.

Ask your employees to tidy their workspace and have a cleaner come in, to hoover and clean the windows. You’ll be surprised at how much of a difference a clean and tidy office can make to an environment.
