Dogs are huge parts of our lives, and can be found in homes all around the world – they’re often considered natural parts of the family! If you’re looking to finally get your hands on a perfect little puppy, or an older canine who’s looking for a forever home, you’re going to want to make sure you get to know your dog breeds first of all.

3 Great Dog Breeds For A First Time Owner

Of course, the right breed of dog for you depends on a variety of factors, such as where you live, who you live with, and the type of personality you have. But if you want to be sure you’re pairing yourself properly, there are 3 dog breeds out there you should look at.

A Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are very popular dogs because they’re very friendly and are present in almost every country around the world. It’s quite easy to get your hands on a Golden Retriever pup, so let’s make sure you’re the right kind of person to grow old and happy with this kind of dog by your side.

Are you someone who’s looking for an intelligent dog, who’s very easy to train? Do you like dogs who are chatty, and like to feel like you’re having a conversation with one? And are you willing to deal with a lot of shedding, and potentially picking hairs out of every other meal? If so, this could be a match made in heaven! Don’t worry, Golden Retrievers make up for this by being very easy to groom.

A Belgian Malinois

These fluffy little fellas have a lot to offer anyone who isn’t used to owning a dog, and you’re going to be very happy with their sociable and loving behaviour. They’re very loyal, and have a long history as protector canines; you can be sure they’ll spot someone coming to the door at least ten minutes before you do! But if they do start to bark like crazy when this happens, they can also be very easily trained out of the habit.

But Belgian Malinois can also be very sensitive little creatures, so if you’re living in a family with a lot of young children, they might not be for you. But if you’re a single household, or you’re in a couple, they’re going to be just right to complete your family unit.

A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

These are small dogs who have a lot of heart to them, and if you’re looking for a pooch you can cuddle up with, this is a great lap dog breed! They’re extremely affectionate and love a good pet, and you can bed down on the sofa for hours with them and the rest of the family.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are also great for people who live in high-rise buildings, or a standard apartment, as they can adapt quite well to the limited space. And whilst they can be playful, they do not always want to go for a walk.

Here’s to adopting the dog you really want!
